Kamuzu Central Hospital IDC

This Infectious Disease Centre was a Design and Build Competition entry for the Ministry of Health in 2022. Although the evaluation process was halted, our team is proud to have come up with a design response to the Ministry's request. The facility was a full-fledged hospital within a hospital for infectious disease patients. The facility had departments from Accident and Emergency, ICU, Theatres, X-ray, Maternity, Male and Female wards, Neonatal, and ancillary spaces like laundry, kitchen, clinical engineering, and waste management. The architecture was designed to be predominantly face brick externally for low maintenance with feature plastered surfaces to articulate the facades.
